False Consensus Effect
We believe more people agree with us than is actually the case.

Everybody things that!
We tend to overestimate the extent to which others share our opinions. This effect is amplified in groups and when we are surrounded by people who share our values. This can cause us to pay less attention to those who disagree with us, making it difficult for them to express their views without being mocked.
You can avoid it by doing the following
- Put your assumptions about what others are likely to think and feel to the test by thinking about people with different backgrounds and beliefs than you.
- Ask others for their thoughts on the topic you're currently debating.
